Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day in Japan is a bit different from the Valentine's Day I'm used to.  In Japan, women make chocolate and sweets and give them to men.  There are two different 'levels' of chocolate giving.  The first is called 'giri-choco'  which means obligation chocolate.  This is chocolate that women give to their co-workers and bosses.  And the second is called 'honmei-choco' which means winner chocolate.  This is expensive chocolate or homemade chocolate that women give to their boyfriends, husbands, ect.  Men usually do not give women anything for Valentine's Day.  They reciprocate on White Day (March 14).
Anyway, I don't want Nina growing up thinking that Valentine's Day is a day that women have to give chocolate to men.  It's sexist.  So, I got Nina a fun little valentine.  It was a little set of Hello Kitty stickers with some little chocolates and cookies.  Nina didn't even really care about the cookies and chocolate.  She was really excited about the stickers.  She took about half of them and stuck them all over our kitchen and living room.  Our house is covered in Hello Kitty now.  But, Nina was happy and that's what matters.
Here are a few pics of Nina opening her valentine.

Nina can't wait to open her Valentine.
"見て!!シール!"(Mite!! Shi-ru!) Look!!  I got stickers!!
(Or seal, which is the Japanese word for sticker)
Until next time...
